Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO)

Have you ever looked at your Instagram feed and wondered how other people are traveling, exploring the world and how you couldn’t? Have you ever thought about what your life would be like if you pursued your dream of playing football instead of finding a 9-to-5 job?

Or how this other person got 100 recommendations on her Medium story but you couldn’t?

The Fear Of Missing Out, or FOMO, is a new mental health syndrome currently on the rise. It’s also found to trigger anxiety in most people.

In a Shots Of Awe episode (linked above), Jason Silva explains this issue in quite an entertaining way.

And the solution to avoid FOMO is simple: Don’t commit to anything!

It makes sense, doesn’t it?

If you don’t get married, you can be with whoever you like.

If you don’t buy a house, you live wherever you want.

If you don’t get a job, you can do whatever you like.

Living without commitments will certainly feel liberating, but would it still be worth it?
