What Is A Meta Description? And How To Add It To A Medium Post.

It’s a useful SEO tool you should be using.

What is a meta description?

What is a meta description, and how do you add one to your Medium blog post? I’m going to tell you what it is and how to add it to your posts.

I legitimately enjoy writing about technology and consumer electronics. So, I want to make sure my content can be seen and enjoyed by many.

If you’re new to writing you may be wondering what is a meta description and why is it important. Well according to wordstream.com, a meta description is an HTML element that describes and summarizes the contents of your page for the benefit of users and search engines.

So that was a very wordy explanation. Basically, the meta description is a short snippet of text. This snippet is under your post’s title, and it helps explain what your post, web page, etc. is about. It also in turn helps your content appear higher in search engines.

So now that we know what a meta description is, how do you add one to your Medium post? Well let me show you.

Step 1: Log in to your Medium account and navigate to the post you want to add a meta description to.

Step 2: Next you’ll want to click the 3 dots at the top of the page.

Step 3: Click More Settings

Step 4: On the left click SEO settings

Step 5: Finally write yourself a description

And once you have written and saved your description it will show under your title in the post preview in search engines.

And there you have it. You have added a very small snippet of text that can help you rank higher in search engines. Now, these steps are solely for adding a description to a Medium blog post.

It will still be useful no matter where you post your writing. Which ever platform you use for your writing it will have a way to add meta descriptions.
