It allows you to be a part of a global fraternity of professionals, who are recognized as delivering services that are based on the highest levels of professional ethos, trust and transparency.

The letters MRICS are truly the five letters that spell confidence. And in, built environment, especially now in the COVID era that businesses are operating in — client trust and confidence mean everything. The chartered qualification — MRICS, depict the highest standards of professionalism, up-to-date expertise, quality, and capacity of professionals to exercise leadership and undertake independent practice.

It is not merely an additional qualification; it is a prestigious global benchmark that gives you a distinct advantage and credibility over others in the field. People that have a chartered qualification are looked upon very differently. There are 22 pathways through which you can qualify, basis your domain of expertise. There is a rigorous assessment process in place, to ensure that professionals with the right attributes qualify. To help you get there, RICS has different / flexible ways to get through the assessment process, where the team is available to support you throughout your journey to qualifying as a member.

As an organisation RICS has been extremely agile in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organisation embraced technology and professional assessments have and will continue to be conducted digitally. Between February and April 2020 alone, we have had 6082 candidate enrolments (people enrolling to be qualified); 3072 new professionals being awarded RICS designations; and over 111,252 professionals qualify worldwide. This is a testament to the fact that more professionals are looking to invest in their development and growth during these times.

Additionally, in order to support existing professionals and candidates, a host of online training and learning and development products and services (webinars, masterclasses, forums, training modules and courses etc.) have been made available — free of cost and which will remain so till 31 July. This also includes i-Surv, RICS’ online repository for guidance, standards, and other resources. This is a commitment to continue to serve the profession through these trying and challenging times.

Professionals working across the built environment sector, and not just RICS professionals, have also been made aware of the support that they can seek (financial, as well as non-financial) through the LionHeart Foundation, which is a partner concern of the RICS. Also, as people and businesses come to terms with living with the COVID pandemic, RICS has continued to showcase the work of its professionals across the globe, on being resilient and making a difference. A series of guidance is also now available on how to approach business in the post COVID era.

There are definitely merits of being a member of an organisation like RICS, that has been quick to respond to the changing market dynamics and support the profession to the best of its abilities.
