I’m not sure I deserve your ad hominem. By “tech,” I mean the basic, core technology of a federated social network. The fact that the user experience of these tools is rather poor (some are better than others) is largely a result of the fact that, like much open-source software, there is not an economic incentive structure for significant investment in user experience. The problem you’re describing is precisely a symptom of the root problem that I’m articulating there, both for federated networks and much other open-source software in general.

My hope is that, with cooperative business models, we can change that by creating an economic incentive for open-source projects to prioritize usability concerns much more.
