Yes, that is why I continue to be frustrated by shows that look at cultures through a Western lens. I saw a show like that recently called “Unusual Cultures”. My thought was, Are the cultures unusual to the people who live them? If the perspective of National Geographic was applied to Western Culture, it would come off very unusual too. I believe that it is too easy to call something “crazy” when it simply means that someone is doing something that is not your norm. The problem is that we are all expected to follow ONE mainstream norm, no matter where we live, no matter who we are.
