Visual Design Inspiration | Michael Doret
Michael Doret is a name most should already be well acquainted with. And if not, you’ll certainly be well aware of his work.
The legendary designer, typographer and illustrator, is responsible for some of the most dazzling and iconic images we know today. Over the years, he has created the Knicks logo, multiple TIME’s covers, album covers like ‘Rock & Roll Over’ and ‘Bedlam Ballroom’ for KISS, and even the Graphic Artists Guild logo.
Residing in New York City, Michael Doret speaks of how growing up in the ’50s and ’60s near Coney Island Amusement Park, was a major influence for his artistry. He described the park as a ‘visual cornucopia… (filled with) incredible signage, letting, banners, brilliant colours‘. This level of influence is permanently etched into his work and has since opened his digital font foundry in 2006, Alphabet Soup. Working on such an array of visual projects, Michael Doret is also an eight-time winner of the New York Art Directors Club Silver Award and has been heralded as a ‘seasoned scriptmeister’.
