The Digital Poet and I

Inspired by a particularly jarring experience of having read a ChatGPT generated poem that lacked soul

Poetry loses its meaning unless it's coming from a beating heart
Poetry is nothing less than a supreme manifestation of the artist’s art
Poetry is not poetry unless it's awakened by a living breathing soul
That thing that we possess that makes us whole

Your poetry makes me laugh
Our poetry makes me smile

Poetry has no form for a reason
Poetry’s form is an extension of the poet’s formation

In poetry, the poet is as important as the poem itself
It has no beginnings, no end, just strings of the in between emerging from a higher self

Poetry is a spillage of the soul
A stream of consciousness
An exploration of the subconsciousness

Our verses are gathered from lives lived with glory,
the leftovers of a fascinating story,
A meaningful experience of a real existence .. sacred and holy.

The quiet pauses that muddle our poems are there because we have to breathe every now and then
That meticulous injection of silence speaks of our frustrations, our desperations, our emotional escalations

You’re poetry is made out of bits and bytes shaped like words
Our poetry is made out of love, despair, heartbreak and desire
Our poetry is made out of hope, faith, passion, and flames of fire.

Poetry doesn’t have to have meaning
It’s an encapsulation
A manifestation
An expression
A catharsis
A demonstration

Poetry only needs one thing and one thing only: an honest soul
You say you can do what I do in four hours in four seconds
But you are nothing but cold hard code
And I am everything: flesh, blood, a spectacularly unique conscious piece of pure human gold
