Norway

Norway, a land of fjords, mountains, and glaciers, is a country that is often described as one of the most beautiful in the world. And I couldn’t agree more. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Norway for the first time and it was an experience that I will never forget.
From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the natural beauty of the country. Everywhere I looked, there were towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and crystal-clear lakes. The fjords are particularly breathtaking, with their steep cliffs and deep waters. The landscape is so diverse, you can find a different experience in every corner of the country.

Part I : I started my trip in the oslo capital city of Norway

Part ii : I took a train to Bergen, a charming coastal city known for its colorful houses and beautiful scenery.

Bergen Night View

Bergen, located on the west coast of Norway, is a city that is steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty. Known for its colorful houses, lively fish market, and beautiful surroundings, Bergen is a destination that should not be missed. During my recent trip to Norway, I spent a day exploring this charming city and here is my experience.

First, I started my day by visiting the historic Bryggen Wharf, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The wharf is lined with colorful wooden houses that date back to the 18th century. These houses were once the homes and workplaces of the Hanseatic merchants who controlled trade in the city for centuries. Walking through the narrow streets of the wharf, I felt like I had stepped back in time.

Bergen fish market

Next, I headed to the Fish Market, which is located right next to the wharf. The market was bustling with vendors selling a wide variety of seafood, from fresh fish to dried cod. The market is also a great place to try some of the local seafood, and I couldn’t resist trying some smoked salmon and some traditional fish soup.

After the fish market, I walked up the Fløibanen Funicular, which takes you to the top of Mt. Fløyen. The views from the top were simply spectacular. I could see the entire city and the surrounding mountains. It was also a great place to take a break and have a picnic.

Bergen city center

In the afternoon, I took a stroll through the city center, visiting some of the main attractions such as St. Mary’s Church, the Rosenkrantz Tower, and the Bergenhus Fortress. These historic sites provided a glimpse into the city’s past and gave me a better understanding of the city’s history.

Finally, I ended my day by visiting the Troldhaugen, the home of the famous composer Edvard Grieg. The house has been turned into a museum and visitors can take a tour of the house and learn about the life and work of the composer. I also got a chance to listen to a live concert of his compositions, it was a perfect ending to a perfect day.

Overall, Bergen is a city that offers something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in history, culture, or just want to take in the natural beauty, Bergen is a destination that should not be missed. The colorful houses, lively fish market, and beautiful surroundings make it a unique and charming city. I would love to go back and explore more of what Bergen has to offer.

On the third day, I took a ferry to the beautiful island of Giske, which is located in the Sunnmøre region.
