Both hiring and searching for a devops role is hard. I’ve been checking some job offerings for the generic devops role. Some are more build process oriented, others are more sysadmin oriented.

Besides the different “devop” tools that exist (cheg, ansible, jenkins, etc), other problem is the technology in which the applications are written. From personal experience, setting up a tomcat for a java application and setting up a python flask based application with wsgi require a different knowledge base.

I believe that regardless of the known tools of a devops engineer, his/hers most important qualities are adaptability and fast learning.
