Thank you Aaron for reminding us of a concept that is central for our mental well-being. I believe you can expand this philosophy of yours even further to encompass one’s life goal. If one’s ultimate life goal is to become the best version of him/herself, then he/she starts to see other people as part of the ‘system’ that enables them to attain that purpose. So instead of competing against people to ‘win’ we can approach them with an understanding of entering a mutually beneficial encounter.
