Earlier this fall, we took a significant step forward by licensing our AI-based Nuro Driver™ system to help mobility platforms and automotive OEMs bring autonomous vehicles to market swiftly and safely. We’re unveiling a substantial expansion of our Level 4 (L4) driverless capabilities, powered by our AI-enabled Nuro Driver and deployed through our zero-occupant vehicles. This isn’t just an incremental improvement; our technology now powers one of the largest and most advanced L4 autonomous vehicle deployments in the United States. This is the real-world impact we envisioned when we started Nuro.
Our zero-occupant vehicles now can operate at city-scale in both California and Texas. In Mountain View and Palo Alto, we’ve expanded our operational area by 83%, while Houston has seen a 70% increase. This expansion isn’t just about covering more ground — it signifies that the core autonomy capabilities needed to navigate on most city roads have been validated as being performant and safe, highlighting the maturity of our technology.
Our latest deployment showcases several exciting technological advancements:
- Night Operations: Our vehicles now navigate safely after dark, significantly extending our deployment and training hours.
- Complex Scenario Handling: Enhanced capabilities allow us to adeptly manage situations like reacting to active emergency vehicles, navigating construction zones, and responding to school buses.
- Enhanced Road Coverage: We’ve expanded to multi-lane roads with speeds up to 35 mph.
