Do you know there is beekeeper in Singapore? If you don’t believe check out www.nutrinests.com to find out more.

Yes, I am a Singapore Beekeeper, a bee conservationist. Many people in Singapore are afraid of bee because of the bee sting but most of them do not know that bee will sting people only when they get provoked. Bee are very important to our environment, they are the core contributor in balancing our ecology.

Do you know that the earth is alive? It constantly making changes to try to balance itself, but why the earth has to constantly balanced? Mostly is because of the human activities. For example deforestation, mining, and industrialisation.

I am so minute and could not make a slight impact to any one of the activities mentioned above. However, I wanted to do my part to conserve the earth so that it can be remain liveable for our future generations to come. Then I learn about the situation of the worldwide bee population and thought I can do my part to support in bee conservation in Singapore!

In many countries such as France, Germany, USA and China are investing heavily to help conserving bee population. I was astonished that, in Singapore, people are still spending money to get exterminator to kill the local bees! To stop that, the first thing that I can think of is to provide a service to help people relocate local bee colonies instead of killing.

People started calling me to help them relocate the bees in a humane way. It is interesting to see how someone would expect that this should be a free service! I thought it should be a free service at the beginning too but soon I realised that I have to charge for the bee relocating service. This is because, people start calling for the service not for the sake of bee conservation but because it is free and the operation is not sustainable with out any finacial support. At the same time, the charges will also get people to explore the possibility in learning to co-exist with the bee. Making the service chargeable do make some people to seriously consider the option of keeping the bees.

The different between humane relocation versus exterminator is very clear. The bee colony is relocated into a wooden box, transported to a pre-arranged private garden, set up the beehive in the private garden, Bee continue to do what they do. In this way, the ‘Bee problem’ is solve, bees are conserved, little impact to the environment. As compare to exterminator, Bees are killed, area are contaminated with toxic chemical, huge impact to the environment. Well, both way, people got to pay for the service.

There are also people trying to ‘chase’ away the bee colony by smoking the bees. They thought this is humane enough. Least did they know that when the adult bees abandoned hive, leaving all the unborn larvae to die slowly and the flied off adult bees will build a new hive in their neighbouring property. It is clear that this method to remove bees is really not solving the problem.

I really hope more and more people in Singapore will learn about the importance of our local bees. Start to co-exist with the bees. If not, give the bee a chance by calling someone who can humanely rehousing the bees and also able to settle the bees in a suitable environment.

You can call Xavier, the Singapore Beekeeper, if you do not know anyone who can provide you a complete solution to your bee problem. My number is +65 91474065

Let’s make Singapore a real city in a garden, a garden not only have many different types of plants but also a garden that is naturally balanced by all the diversified living things without much human intervention. The Nature are capable to balance itself if everyone do our part and respect our earth.
