This is Not My Republican Party

I love this vision of the Republican party, but I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen a Republican party that actually stood for this vision at any point in my lifetime. The divisive politics of Karl Rove and the pandering to religious social conservatism were the very bedrock upon which the Republican party built its electoral strategy even when I was a child in the early 1980s.

I’m afraid that what you’re promoting as Republican values are actually the values of a party that does not exist, and has perhaps never existed. But should. Unfortunately, until we move beyond our plurality voting system, a viable party with such an ethic *cannot* exist. This is why I really hope that those who wish for such a thing will support efforts like those promoted by http://www.fairvote.org/. Until we break the stranglehold of the two-party system, I don’t think we have much hope.
