Hello everyone, my name is Nwokporo Chukwuebuka Victor and I am an aspiring Software Engineer currently undergoing internship at TIIDELab, an acronym for (Think, Innovate, Ideate, Develop and Execute Lab). For the next six months I’ll be filling your ears with my amazing experiences at TIIDELab and this is my first article.

Just as other fellows have anticipated or heard about TIIDELab from someone else and wanted to be among to get the experience, my case was very different. I never knew about this internship called TIIDELab neither did I know anyone who had done it previously. I know this sound shocking. It all started during my last days at school, spent most of my nights applying for internship position on LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram sporadically.

One faithful day I received a text message saying that I have been selected, and this was the beginning of my journey. I scaled through the coding interview and was invited to a physical interview at their office at Abuja. I was seriously surprised as I didn’t expect to get in. Finally, the day for the interview arrived. I went six hours before my interview time (I was supposed to be interviewed by 2pm but I came 8.00am). I met two other ladies (Christiana and Farida)who were also waiting for the interview. We shared contacts and tips on how to ace the interview as we waited for us to be called in. Finally, all three of us got in.

TIIDELab Cohort 4–2022

On July 8, 2022 the journey to being a self reliant software engineer started as we got onboarded and welcomed to the family of TIIDELab. Among the guest of honors were our founder Mr Kadir Salami, Mr Shamsudeen Aderoju our program coordinator, Mr Pishikeni Tukura our QA Specialist and our coach Ayodele Samuel Adebayo and many other guests.

Onboarding Stage

Work started in earnest as our coach took us through the basics of version control. We also had two guest leaders among us in person of Mr Saheed Adepoju and Mr. Farouk who introduced us to the world of Data Structures and Algorithms. Later on we were introduced too what we call “early morning tea” — Our daily CCAT test.

Among all the wonderful experience I cannot forget to also tell you about my election as Head of House(24th June — 1st of July) with my partner Francis Uche Ogwumike. the visit of two tech icons Sultan Akintunde and Samson Goddy. Their coming was very insightful and expository. Here are some beautiful pics:

So far, it has been fun and filled with a lot of resources to improve our coding skills and a Friday meetup where Mr Shamsudeen gives us important tips on how to be successful in our endeavors not only as a programmer but in life as general and where we have a challenge which determines the next head of house. He always makes me remember the quote of our founder which says

“Everyone can code, but not everyone has what it takes to stand out”

In one month, I have learnt important skills such as coding, communication, and collaboration. Join me next month as I bring you exciting experiences of my learning at TIIDELab. Here are a list of projects we have worked on so far

  1. Portfolio project
