A lifetime of democracy has conditioned people into believing that a public good is automatically “owned” by the public, who control its present and future through majority vote.

It should be pointed out that it is a public good by the official definition. Everyone does not and should not have a say in how it is provided.

“a commodity or service that is provided without profit to all members of a society, either by the government or by a private individual or organization.”
