‘Getting to Know Yourself,’ Salutatorian Nyah Scott Says

“It is OK to not know where you are going in your life and to not have everything figured out,” salutatorian Nyah Scott says.

Scott, who will be attending the University of California, Santa Barbara in the Fall and majoring in pre-communications, told her classmates at commencement that “no matter where we end up or what we end up doing, we are not defined by the choices we make or expectations we create for ourselves in high school.”

Choices for Scott at Moreau have ranged from leadership roles with student government, MCTV, and the school newspaper, the Explorer, to participating in the Culinary Arts Club, the musical Oklahoma and the TEDx event.

“In high school, I became socially, politically and economically aware outside of my local community, and so did my passion for journalism and writing,” Scott said.

“I also came to understand how students need to be the catalysts for the changes they want in the world because if they choose to remain indifferent at times of injustice or social instability, they cannot confidently assume that someone else will do it for them,” she added.
