History of Mikimoto Pearls!

Japanese businessman Kokichi Mikimoto (Japanese: 御木本 幸吉, Hepburn: Mikimoto Kōkichi. He is credited with developing the first cultured pearl and, with the founding of his luxury pearl firm Mikimoto, launching the cultured pearl industry.

Imperial decree admitted him into the House of Peers, and he was posthumously given the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure. The Japan Patent Office named him one of the Ten Japanese Great Inventors on April 18, 1985.

Women’s Wear Daily Magazine named the firm one of the most opulent brands in the world, and Nihon Keizai Shimbun named Mikimoto one of the greatest Japanese business leaders of the 20th century. He is furthermore credited with founding Mikimoto Pharmaceuticals, a business that specializes in pearl calcium-containing cosmetics. Named after him is Mikimoto Pearl Island. Furthermore, his copyrighted work is acknowledged in the “Phoenix Mikimoto Crown” worn by Miss Universe winners and the pageant crown worn by Miss International.

Mikimoto was born on January 25th, 1858. The father of Mikimoto was the proprietor of an udon store. At eleven years old, Mikimoto’s father became sick. At thirteen, Mikimoto dropped out of school to work as a vegetable seller. His interest in pearls began when he was a little boy and saw the Ise pearl divers unloading their wealth at the beach.
