Why Write?

Do you love to write? Do others compliment you for your writing? Do your friends call you a gifted writer?
Maybe there was a time when you loved writing. The diligence and concentration required with the task, however, may have turned you off. You didn’t like secluding yourself just to finish a writing project. You almost hated the process you had to go through to come up with a well-written article or book.
No matter how you dislike writing as a time-consuming task, I believe you will overcome every stumbling block and emerge as a truly productive Christian writer as you take time to ruminate:
Writing is a natural gift.
It’s inherent in certain personality types. If you have a melancholic or an introvert side, writing runs in your blood. It may seem like a mood that is so unpredictable when you have a combination of contrasting personalities (like sanguine-melancholic or influencing-conscientious style). But as you grow with a well-balanced temperament, you find yourself more and more able to utilize your natural gift.
Writing is a creative ability.
You do not write for the sake of writing or simply as a means of self expression. Although you can do the latter with poems and personal journals, a writer basically writes to create a piece that will serve its purpose — be it to inform, entertain, educate, inspire or motivate a specific target audience.
To write is not an option, it is a mandate for every Spirit-filled believer.
You cannot not write if you are a Christian who is growing in your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. You write to record and preserve the lessons you are learning in your walk with God. The gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12) will at times inspire and enable you to write down revelations and insights for others to read and draw strength from.
We of course have the most important Book because of God’s servants who received His inspiration and obeyed His directives: Write . . . write . . . write. . . .
Now God often instructs us through His Word. . . . Is He impressing on you today to write down a verse, some words of encouragement, a precious lesson, or a much-needed warning? Why not obey, breathe life with your paper and pen, or with your keyboard?
“Go now, write it on a tablet for them . . . that for the days to come it may be an everlasting witness.” — Isaiah 30:8
