This article’s premise is bullshit. If you actually look at the email it quite literally reads “I laud those goals, in theory, as most of us do. But in practice, I wonder if we should reflect more transparently, as a community, on the consequences of an institutional (which is to say: bureaucratic and administrative) exercise of implied control over college students.”

And later states: “tell them you are offended. Talk to each other. Free speech and the ability to tolerate offence are the hallmarks of a free and open society.”

It doesn’t say go ahead and wear offensive costumes. It says there are costumes that are offensive and we as an educational institution should be equipping you on having these conversations with your peers not outright banning them. So this premise is complete bull.

Maybe if you guys weren’t too busy being offended you could learn something at Yale.
