There are many ways to manipulate statistics, and alter experimental design, to conform to expectation or create profitable results. Yet, science is able to advance because repeatability exposes the charlatans. It isn’t perfect, but it’s better than passing a law when you have no evidence or experimentation to see what might happen. Passing laws blindly is more likely to be dangerous, compared to letting data decide.
