NewGen Angels Wants To Make Angel Investing In Africa Easier To Understand

NewGen Angels, an exclusive international investment club focused on Africa, has launched Africa’s First Business Angel Survey in partnership with Ongeza Fund. The aim of the study, according to a press release obtained by Techvoize, is to better understand the needs of angel investors in deploying capital, their liquidity goals, their achievements in realizing exits, and the extent of the impact of their investments.
The all-inclusive study will underscore the emerging trends in the industry and some of the key concerns related to angel investing in Africa. The survey was launched on 31st July. The result of the survey will be provided in a preliminary review based on the number of responses received and the analysis of the survey. This will done at the Africa Business Angel Forum to be hosted in London on September 9th.
Ongeza Fund Founder, Ashley Lewis, stated this about the survey:
“It is a pleasure to partner with NewGen Angels on this survey. We are passionate about cross border investment opportunities and engaging locally based investors and international investors to grow early stage investment opportunities.”
What Value Will The Survey Add?
Emerging markets are quite peculiar in terms of the challenges that entrepreneurs and investors face. Some of these challenges include poor infrastructure, unstable policy regime, underdeveloped financial systems etc. This can make investment and business decisions quite difficult to make. One thing that investors and entrepreneurs rely on is data. It is important to have this to be able to make solid business judgement.
The study is valuable as it will provide useful data to investors and entrepreneurs. The results of the study will be valuable to two major groups of people:
- Anyone in Africa looking to receive angel investment or work with with an angel investor focused on the continent
- Anyone looking to become an angel investor in Africa

Sean Ndiho Obedih, Founder — NewGen Angels
Here is what Sean Ndiho Obedih, Founder of NewGen Angels, said about the purpose of the study:
“Although the African angel investing landscape is growing steadily we are still at a very early stage of its development cycle hence the need to measure all data points so that we can best serve the ecosystem. Working with Ongeza Fund is a great opportunity to carry out a unique study that will benefit anyone looking to engage as an early stage investor in Africa.”
Here is a link to the survey and it takes about 3–5 minutes to complete. The responses will remain anonymous.
