Signing Autographs, Security, Protection, and Safety Details After Your Ideas Presentation

(#25 On How You Communicate Your Ideas Series)

When an event permits of signing autographs or signing copies of books or any other artistic works by the speaker-ideas presenter, it must be done in an organized and structured manner to avoid the perceptions of disorganization that could pose a security threat to both the presenter and members of the audience in general.

It is expected that the event planners had included the signing event segment as an integral part in the program.

The audience members as well as the speaker presenter must know ahead of the event, that there would be book signing, or artistic works sales as a distinct, yet integral activity to the overall event.

Autograph signing and book signing can each pose a challenge to the event organizers as well as the speaker-presenter. These elements in public idea presentations must be given serious thought before the event.

If this is a nation-wide or world-wide known figure with large following, the planners must make plans for security details. The venue must be scanned and secured in advance.

During the signing, there must be orderliness relative to audience behavior and attitudes. If needed, enforce a single line formation as crowd control tactic and a strategy for proper and appropriate behavior.

Here, the speaker-presenter must resist the temptation to engage every member who buys and offers to obtain a signature. The exchange must be a pleasant appreciation and show of gratitude to the audience, the buyer, and the fan.

Avoid discussions of the content of the book or the works or art by the presenter and ideapreneurs. If and when such is unavoidable, such must be or kept to mere references to sources where elaborate discussions could be found.

If possible, it is in good order to have a boldly written and mounted placard referring audience members to the website and books stores to purchase of more artistic works or books by the speaker and ideapreneur.
