Missiles & aircraft can vector the thrust of their engines at their outlets to supplement their control surfaces. Wheeled vehicles are a poor analogy to things that fly because the ground moves much less than the air.

The Meteor returns the ability to Western air forces to out-range AAM used by Russia & by China that was lost with the retirement of the AIM-54 Phoenix. Score 1 for MBDA. “MiG killer” is an anachronism, though. The latest Russian fighters are Sukhoi designs.

(Obviously the Meteor has yet to down any aircraft. The Chinese DF-21 anti-ship ballistic missile hasn’t sunk any ships in anger either, but the US Navy will spend 9 figures, if not more, to counter it.)
