Occom Teaches Identifying Problems, Prototyping Solutions at NYU

Ariana Dugan, COO

Team Occom is leading a class for students in the Masters of Science in Integrated Digital Media Program at the NYU School of Engineering this semester. In Identifying Problems, Prototyping Solutions: A Hands-On and Psychological Approach, students are learning the hard and soft skills necessary to define, prototype, and test software products.

We are very excited to have this opportunity to teach our methods to budding technologists and entrepreneurs at NYU. We are focused on having them practice design, documentation, and cross-disciplinary communication skills paired with methods from ethnography and psychology for identifying problems. This cross-disciplinary approach is meant to complement and enhance the technical and engineering-focused education in other classes from the Integrated Digital Media Program.

We’ve also created time in each class to hear from some of the most prominent thinkers and entrepreneurs the New York City tech community. There is a great diversity of talent and experience that we’ve crossed paths with in the last few years at Occom. Sharing that diversity with students will help them see the many paths and viewpoints one can take to contribute to creating software solutions. Look for a recap of each class in the coming weeks to learn more about key takeaways from our guest lecturers and the details of the methodologies we’re imparting to our students.
