Nice writeup. As someone who reads a lot of news each day, this is behaviour that I was aware of following very well — though I never gave thought if it was the behaviour of the “masses”. If a news site doesn’t allow quick overview of the latest stories, it is “hasta la vista baby”. Sites like Hacker News, Designer News, Javascriptkicks, Frontend front, and many others like it are my go-tos for staying current — and I keep coming back to them because I can quickly glance for the new stuff.
