Ludwig van Beethoven completed the Moonlight Sonata in 1801 and dedicated it to his student, the Austrian Countess Julie Guicciardi. The first movement, Adagio sostenuto, was called “Moonlight” by the music critic Ludwig Relshtab in 1832, five years after its author’s death. Relshtab compared this work to “Moonlight over Lake Lucerne”.
For this record, Katya Kramer-Lapin performed the “Piano Sonata №14 in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 27 №2 “Moonlight”: I. Adagio sostenuto” in her memorable virtuoso style.
