enjoyed this. Writing has so many disciplines — it’s pointless to compare yourself to a best seller, when bloggers, comedians, and exhibitionists can attain plaudits without any formal training, gifted or not. Yet, I tend to agree with you, that these are not what the industry or institutions would call ‘writers.’ If they were to publish, they likely would need a co-writer. That’s not meant as a criticism, just reality.
It can also be said that good writers aren’t born. Some writers are born with natural talent, but inchoate talent must be cultivated, refined, before a talent for writing develops, so it is recognized as early as middle school, perhaps.
It’s just not good enough to call oneself a writer simply because you write: yet there are as many poor writers as there are readers who don’t know the difference. This phenomenon drives the glut of content in such a way as to utterly deluge the medium, making it more difficult for talented writers to be read, and harder for readers to find quality content, or even know the difference.
