Heffalumps and Woozles Steal Hunny: Should You Worry?

Milne’s heffalumps and woozles are denizens of the imaginary ‘100 Aker Wood,’ where Winnie the Pooh, and his friends live. From Heffalump Hollow, they make their appearance on a dreary and anxious rainy night, in the nightmares of certain unsuspecting bears. The creatures are symbolic of man’s subconscious fears and unrequited wish fulfilment that haunt and beleaguer his everyday thoughts.

We are apprehensive of other people who we suspect might be envious or covetous of what we value or prize, whether that be peace of mind, material wealth, good fortune, or fame. We fear they will act on these desires in a way that threatens our well-being, prosperity and right to a peaceable existence. Of course, I am talking about two specific characters: heffalumps and woozles.

Their desires are entirely selfish, be it the last can on a grocery shelf, a parking spot, seat on a bus, a place in line, noise polluting behavior, or acquisition merely for its own sake: it’s incentive enough to know that you value something for them to covet it for
