How to build a press list that gets you coverage

These are great tips to get someone started with an outreach campaign, but I would love to add some more.
My tips as an influencer and outreach marketer:
- Use a starter package at BuzzStream or NinjaOutreach for $29 to build your list and save yourself a LOT of time.
- Read their content and read it some more! Bloggers receive countless pitches that completely irrelevant to them, their blogs and their readers. You need to know who you are pitching before you pitch.
- Get their name right! I delete multiple emails a month from people that can’t figure out that my name is Jessica.
- Reach out and connect with the list via social media and comments before you send the pitch. Bloggers are more inclined to share your press release if you’ve already established a relaitionship.
- Understand that it takes a minimum of an hour for bloggers to put together one post. They are carefully crafting Pinterest-worthy images and planning when to share your news across their network. If you haven’t built a relationship with them or spoon fed some great content* to fill a space in their editorial calendar, they are highly unlikely to publish on your behalf without a fee.
- Don’t expect bloggers to link back to your site without a no-follow tag and possible disclosure. It dings their credibility with Google, the readers and, if a fee was paid, it is against FTC regulations.
*Interactive content, giveaways, etc…content that provides something for the reader.
