Government ‘Requests’ Back Doors Built into Encrypted Messenger Apps
In recent days there has been what some are calling a ‘coordinated push’ by government agencies demanding back doors into encrypted conversations. The governing bodies in question, namely that of the United States and the United Kingdom (once safe havens for personal privacy and the ability to speak freely), are effectively mandating that back doors into end-to-end encryption communication apps such as WhatsApp are shared allowing for the ability to spy on users conversations. The FBI and The Justice Department cited a desire to ‘save vitims, protect families, and stop child predators’ chiefly among the recent increase in pressure.
The narrative changes, but the tactic remains the same. The United States government has repeatedly resorted to fear-mongering its citizens into relinquishing their rights to privacy and security. What they fail to consider, or fail to acknowledge instead, is that this type of behavior encourages those committing unlawful acts to seek increasingly secure and lesser-known alternatives to act out these crimes, while leaving the average person that much more deprived of their privacy.
