Windows 10 Start menu stopped searching?

So you’ve installed the latest Windows 10 updates, and suddenly the Start menu stopped working as before. You click on it, type something and either:

  1. Nothing happens
  2. The Start menu is filled with black and no apps/icons comes up

I assume you got to this post through a Google search of this bug. Search no further! Follow these steps:

1. Open the Start menu and click the cog icon:

2. Type ‘update history’ and then click ‘View your Update history’:

3. Click ‘Uninstall updates’:

4. On the top-right text box, type KB4512941, and when it comes up in the search results, right click it and choose Uninstall:

5. Let the uninstall finish (it takes some time), then restart Windows when it tells you to, and adiós to this dreaded bug! Until Microsoft fixes it somewhere next month…

Clap to tell me if it worked.
