I’m not really bothered by this at all, assuming the free tier doesn’t disappear completely. If I don’t want to wait two weeks for an album, I can purchase it or start paying 10 bucks a month and get rid of the ads as a bonus. There’s always a single or two posted to YouTube before the album releases and digital music retailers have preview clips of every track, so it’s not like Spotify is the only way to know what you’re getting before you buy it. I guess it might suck for people who are more hardcore about music and have to hear every new thing the day it comes out, but don’t most of those people already pay for a streaming service anyway? I can’t imagine putting up with Spotify’s awful ads if it were something I listened to more frequently and passionately than I do. Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to hear the new Kendrick Lamar album in its entirety the day it comes out, but two weeks is really not that long to wait.
