In this guide, we’ll walk you through connecting your MetaMask wallet to a DeFi app. This is the first required step, in order for you to be able to use DeFi apps.

Start by visiting the Secured Finance landing page. Look for the ‘Trade now’ buttons, which will lead you to the web app.

Before connecting to the app, let’s check the current status of the MetaMask wallet. Click the MetaMask extension icon on the browser’s top right.

  • Network: MetaMask can interact with the Sepolia network
  • Account: Account 1 is selected
  • Connection: MetaMask is not connected to this webpage

Once you have checked on these, let’s click ‘Trade now’ button.

The web page is now on the staging environment for Secured Finance app. The (https://stg.secured.finance) is a test-net-based application to interact with Secured Finance’s smart contract deployed on the Ethereum Sepolia network.

If you see a pop-up error message: Unsupported network, please use Sepolia (Chain ID: 11155111), use the MetaMask extension, and select Sepolia network.

When you first visit the web app, you will likely see a pop-up window asking you to connect with MetaMask.

When you connect MetaMask to a web app, the Ethereum address allows the webpage access on-chain data. This resembles logging in with an email and password (Web2-style). In Web3, there’s no server; users keep their secret phrase, and the browser stores the encrypted private key for direct blockchain interaction.

Once MetaMask is connected, you’ll see your address on the web app.

You can check whether you are connected to the network by clicking on the web app’s MetaMask icon.

If you click the MetaMask extension icon, you can see that the connection status has changed to ‘Connected’.

You can click the ‘Connected’ status to see how many accounts are connected and what permissions apply.

To disconnect from the web app, you can click the web page’s MetaMask toggle and select ‘Disconnect Wallet’.

Keep in mind that this action only disconnects from the app, not from the MetaMask wallet. To better understand what this means, see the explanation below:

To fully disconnect from the web app, follow these steps:

  1. Click the MetaMask icon in your browser.
  2. You’ll see that your account is still connected to the app.
  3. Click ‘Connected’ next to your account name.
  4. Click the three dots icon on the right.
  5. Select ‘Disconnect this account’.

Your account is no longer connected to the app.

Let’s reconnect your MetaMask account to this web app. Click ‘Connect Wallet’ on the web app.

Choose MetaMask and connect your wallet.

The connection modal will appear on your screen.

Once the account is reconnected, you’ll notice that the browser’s MetaMask wallet is also connected. If you’re uncertain about your connection status, try disconnecting and reconnecting to ensure a proper connection.
