[MWC2018] Huawei Announces Entertainment Centric MediaPad M5

Huawei’s MediaPad line up has always lived up to its name. With the company working together with audio company, harman/kardon, the entertainment experience on the tablet has been one of the more notable ones available in the market. This year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the company has announced a two new tablets to the MediaPad lineup: the MediaPad M5 and the MediaPad M5 Pro.

The MediaPad M5 is a smaller 8.4-inch while the Pro is a larger 10.8-inch version. Both variants of the MediaPad M5 will be running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box on Huawei’s own Kirin 960 Octacore processor with 4GB of RAM. The MediaPad M5 will have 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage with support for microSD card expansion.

The MediaPad M5 family will all be equipped with a QuadHD+ screen with a resolution of 2560x1600. The screen will be an IPS display. The tablet will also be equipped with ambient light sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, hall effect sensors and a fingerprint sensor. It will have dual speakers tuned by harman/kardon, a built-in microphone and also Huawei’s HiSten Stereo Sound optimisations for wireless sound systems.

On the camera front, the MediaPad M5 will have an 13-Megapixel sensor on it main, back facing camera; while the front facing camera is an 8-megapixel sensor. The M5 Tablets will be SIM card enabled with 4G LTE connectivity via nano SIM. They will also have support for WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bandwidth and also Bluetooth 4.2.

The MediaPad M5 ditches the 3.5mm headphone jack and updates its USB slot to the new USB-C connector. It will come with a USB-C to 3.5mm jack converter in the box. The tablet will be powered by a 5100mAh batter on the MediaPad M5 while the M5 Pro will come with a larger 7500mAh battery.

The Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro takes direct aim at the iPad pro with the budled Huawei Pen. The stylus comes with 4,096 points of articulation and allows pen input. The Pro also has pogo pin connectors which connect to a keyboard accessory which is sold separately.

While there is no word on official availability in Malaysia yet, the wordwide pricing is listed in the table below. The official availability as of now is later this year.
