Samsung’s DeX was first introduced with the Galaxy Note8 in 2017. The new desktop experience for the Note series brought a whole new level of productivity and utility. It also geared the Note series to become the go to device for digital nomads.

The DeX experience essentially brings an experience similar to the a computer desktop into the palm of your hands. With the Note8, Samsung DeX experience required the use of a specialised dock which alllowed the Note8 and even the S9 and S9+ to display an interface similar to that of a conventional Windows or Mac desktop. With the Note9, this has changed. Instead of needing a special dock for Samsung DeX, you can make use of the experience with a simple HDMI to USB-C connector.

In addition, the Samsung DeX experience is further enhanced with the ability to have two productive screens. Previously, the screen on the smartphone was turned into a trackpad. This is no longer the case in the Note9 instead, you have the option of keeping the screen as a trackpad or using it as a functional screen. This allows you to access multiple applications such as Samsung Notes or Google Docs while using Samsung DeX; allowing you to be even more productive.

While multitasking with two or more apps is useful, the S Pen gets an added edge with the updated Samsung DeX. Thanks to the Bluetooth enhanced S Pen, you’ll be able to seamlessly activate DeX and do your presentation. You won’t need to fumble for a USB dongle for a presenter; just click once to move to the next slide and twice to go to the previous one.

The utility of the S Pen in Samsung DeX doesn’t end there. DeX on the Note9 allows you to annotate and edit while presenting. This is as simple as using the S Pen on the screen while presenting. You’ll be able to draw, write notes and amend the documents on the fly — all with a flick of the S Pen.
