Moving into a new apartment came with its challenges, particularly in setting up the EDMI prepaid meter from Ikeja Electric. The lack of instructions on the provided items left me wondering how non-technical individuals could navigate this technical hurdle. After some research and troubleshooting, I successfully set up the meter.

Here’s a guide on how to set up your PHCN EDMI Prepaid meter from companies like Ikeja or Eko Electric:

Step 1 Connect the EDMI Box to the Meter Outside: Your prepaid EDMI box should come with a piece of paper containing your meter number and two token numbers. Before trying any shortcodes, the first step is to connect your box to the meter outside. Enter your meter number and press enter. You should see “Connect” followed by “Success” on the screen after a few seconds. Ensure you’re close enough to the outside box and that there’s power in your area, as you cannot connect to the box without electricity.

Step 2 — Activate Your EDMI Box with Tokens: Activate your EDMI box by inputting the two 20-digit tokens provided with the meter and EDMI box. Enter each token and press enter, waiting for the “Success” prompt each time.

Step 3 — Top-Up / Purchase Power Tokens: I recommend using buypower.ng or any bank app of your choice.

Step 4 — Load the Token: If using buypower.ng, you’ll receive a 20-digit token via text. Input this token into your EDMI box to view your new credit/unit balance following the recent top-up.

This guide outlines the process of setting up a new EDMI box from PHCN. While the process may not be intuitive and is somewhat lengthy, with the right steps, you can successfully activate your prepaid meter.

Best regards,
