BOOTCAMP AND ADAPTABILITY

Hi everyone, it’s week two of Bootcamp at Andela and I’m happy to have made it this far, my name is Ogbemudia Rex, an Andela fellow want to be. Today I will be writing about how I have been able to adapt to life at Andela Bootcamp 2017. Before I go into details, I would love to give a brief definition of adaptability.
What is Adaptability?
Adaptability according to www.businessdictionary.com is the ability of an entity or organism to alter itself or its responses to the changed circumstances or environment. Adaptability shows the ability to learn from experience and improves the fitness of the learner as a competitor.
Past Week at Andela
Before coming to Andela Bootcamp, I have been programming for some time now and because of this, I had this thought that Bootcamp would be a walk in the park for me. But getting to Bootcamp on the first day, I was amazed by the level of things I needed to learn, tech and non-tech related stuff and I needed to implement them in order to be successful at Bootcamp. Then it came to my realization that I was in for some serious busy. I had no choice than to start learning.
How I Am Adapting to Life at Bootcamp
Adaptability basically means change, and before one can change in life, the mind needs to be fully prepared for it. Without total conviction as regards to the perceived change, one would not be able to adapt to any new environment. For me, that was the first thing I did in order to adapt to the change and new things I meant at Bootcamp.
After preparing my mind, the next thing for me was to accept the change and learn to make them a part of my life. Instead of worrying and complaining about what I meant on ground. I started learning and implement what I have learned. For example git and version control, writing a blog post for others to read and many others were new to me and I needed to learn them.
According to the popular saying, “Rome was not built in a day”; feedback helps in building a person when learning, with feedback, I learned more about, what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. Getting feedback is not enough on its own, but applying them was key in order to incorporate these changes into my life.
A practical example was the way I was using git and Github, I was not writing my commit messages well, my Bootcamp facilitator saw this, he gave me feedback and I adjusted accordingly.
My final note is that, in all that we do in life, we should always have it in our heart that change is constant and anytime change happens, we should be ready to house this change for the betterment of our lives and the lives of others. With the I CAN DO mindset, we will always find a good workaround for any challenge we are faced with in life.
