I Care No More

You did not endure the pain I gave her

When I came out into this world

No, you weren’t the one smiling in tears then

Yet I cared about what you think.

You did not have sleepless nights

Worrying about my future while I slept in the crib

You did not gray when I fell sick

Yet I cared about what you think.

It wasn’t you who lifted me

When I fell off my bike and scraped my knee

Neither was it you who got me that bike

Yet I cared about what you think.

You did not care if I couldn’t read

You did not even know how I did in school

You weren’t there to guide me as I grew

Yet I cared about what you think.

You did not cry when I couldn’t make it

It wasn’t your shoulder that was wet with my tears

It wasn’t your voice that comforted me then

Yet I cared about what you think.

You did not stay up doing what I did

You did not sacrifice to get what I got

You did not care about what made me happy

Yet I cared about what you think.

You don’t live in the big house I bought

You don’t fret over the loan I must repay

All you see is a huge rich abode

Yet I cared about what you think.

Why did I care about what you think?

Because they cared about what you think

They the ones who cried and laughed and showed me light

They the ones who suffered and sacrificed.

Are you not ashamed of yourself?

To make me care about what you think

Your prying eyes are incompetent judges

What gave you the right to even dare to think?

Will you not change your ways O shameless one?

Or will you give voice to your thoughts and become a judge?

Will you be the prude to decide my destination?

When you haven’t taken a single step in my shoes!

Go ahead and be the moral chief of town

I blame you for the times I hurt them

They the ones who care about what you think

For I am no longer one of them.
