Invisible

A boy I observed in a high school today.

Leather jacket, plaid undershirt he sat at his desk. Large headphone sitting amongst his wildly curly hair. His curls and arms cover his head, which is concealed against the desk. A bell chimes, more students enter the room. He becomes more reclusive in his chair; slinking further into it. No one acknowledges him. Feet in clunky boots shift slightly. A woman over the intercom instructs the students to stand and face the flag. He stands revealing his face for the first time. He doesn’t even mouth the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.
