[this is a test post]

It’s no mean feat, being an adult. Just ask your parents. They’ll pat you on your head and say, “How did you know?” When an adult tells you you’re immature (at least to us young adults) and that they’ve got several decades more experience, they really mean it.

Since time runs at the same rate for everyone, there is certainly no way to catch up to parent or grandparent in terms of experience. Sure, Bill could be more mature and experienced than Sam, Sally, and David and thus be relatively more mature, however, Bill just doesn’t have enough years in his pocket to beat his mother or father.

There is also a difference between life experience and specific experience. As the term would suggest, greater experience is only accumulated over time. Experience in a specific hobby can be gained as one dedicates more time to it and thus, will garner more skills in that activity compared to someone who does not involve themselves in such trivial matters. Life experience, however, begins at 0 the very moment you are conceived as a baby, which is something that every human being has in common.

Maturity theoretically increases as time passes. This is true in most cases, but can be argued on many grounds. Some individuals do not graduate from school or get a job and loaf around all day. Some individuals hang on to their childish mentalities and try their best to avoid growing up. Setting these minor cases aside, let’s assume for the sake of this post, that with every passing year, most individuals get involved in enough activities, meet enough people, and experience situations that make them more wise.

After completing my first year in college, I have a lot to reflect upon. Transitioning from high school to college is no easy task. The sudden change is definitely similar to running straight into a brick wall and the time it takes to get accustomed to the unfamiliar atmosphere is lengthy. I’m sure many teenagers all feel the same when you have parents looking over your shoulder almost all the time.
