KTLA News Station

The newsroom of my choice is KTLA, which is located in Los Angeles, California. KTLA is a CW affiliate owned by Tribune Media. This station has morning news shows from four in the morning to noon, day shows throughout the afternoon, and multiple evening shows.

A question that I would ask first is with all of this information regarding interesting or important stories, coming in, how the journalists make each story unique and different. How do news stories differentiate from other stories? How does social media play a role in disaster or breaking news stories? Does social media provide the same story as broadcast?

KTLA uses Facebook a little less frequently than Twitter. But those social media sources are used pretty often. This news station doesn’t use Instagram as much as Facebook and Twitter. However, I think that they could use Instagram to help get more attention on important topics and breaking news stories.

Behind the posting of news on social media from KTLA news station, it seems like they are not showing much emotion behind what they are writing. The information being put out there in their posts seems to be taken straight from their articles. After a while the posts seem to lack emotion, passion and just a lack of creativity. When posting on social media, I believe people want a “hook”, something to make them stop and read the story. If people see the same thing over and over, it creates a lack of trust and possibly irritation among the readers and journalists.

I chose this news station because it was far away from anything around here. It was something different than what I am used to seeing. The main reason I chose KTLA was because I am interested in how they put their content out on social media, and in the future, I might want to work there.
