I am a Newbie…….but I am experienced in the GI world!!
Hello and welcome! My name is Angela Oi Chung, and I’m excited to share my passion for gastrointestinal (GI) medicine with you. My journey in the medical field began when I came to the United States as a foreign student at the age of 19. As you can imagine, navigating a new language and environment was no easy feat, but I was determined to succeed.
After overcoming those early challenges, I became a physician assistant in 2008 and began practicing in emergency medicine and primary care. I learned much during that time, from managing critical care patients in the ER to providing primary care to families and individuals. However, it wasn’t until I discovered the world of GI medicine that I truly found my calling. It was 12 years ago that I had the opportunity to join a GI practice, and the sophistication of our digestive system immediately struck me. I found it fascinating how every little part of our GI tract works together to allow us to digest our food and absorb the nutrients we need to survive. But I also quickly learned that things could go wrong in the digestive system, causing uncomfortable symptoms for all of us.
Since then, I’ve devoted myself to helping patients manage the often complex and uncomfortable symptoms of GI disorders while promoting greater understanding and awareness of these conditions. And that’s why I decided to be a Newbie Writer— to share some of my experiences and insights with you and help those struggling with GI symptoms who need help knowing where to turn. I hope you’ll find my articles informative, engaging, and helpful. Whether you’re dealing with GI symptoms yourself or just interested in learning more about this fascinating area of medicine, I’m excited to share this journey with you. Thanks for joining me!
