Art vs. Design — A Timeless Debate

I agree that design and art are two very different and often uncomparable things, but one is not more inferior than the other. Your tone seems to be defending design as the “more thought out and purposeful” of the two. Art serves a purpose: to be appreciated, looked at, and made to be aesthetically pleasing to those who buy/see it. Both processes are different, and they are for very different purposes. One can not be weighed and compared over the other. It should not feel like an insult to have a design considered as “art.”
