Until recently, wonky veg would be thrown away before it could even make it onto the shop shelves. Vegetables that may taste great, but aren’t as pleasing on the eye. Because who would take that risk?

There are now multiple schemes in place to make sure that wonky veg doesn’t get wasted. And we’re all for it! After all, what matters more: the way the vegetables look, or the way they taste? Are you missing out on the best tasting vegetable of your life because of society’s non-wonky pre-filtration process? We hope not.

Now I’m not going to tell you stop judging people on looks, and wait to find out about their personality. But there’s a lot to be said about looking for love in the right places. Here’s an analogy.

Imagine this: You’d like to eat an apple that looks and tastes great. You go to a fruit stall where you intend to buy and taste one apple at a time, until you find the one that’s just right.

This fruit stall has all of the apples on display, in two different boxes: one for regular apples and one for organic apples. You know that the regular apples usually look great. But there’s no guarantee that they taste as good as they look. You also know that the organic apples don’t often look great at first glance, but that they usually taste great.

Which box do you choose from?

With the regular apples, you’ve got a lot to choose from to get the look you like, but you have to take the time biting into every single one to discover if you like that apple’s taste.

With the organic apples, you know you’ll probably like the taste. So all you have to do is judge with your eyes which one has the look you’re after.

My guess is that, unless you want to waste a lot of time and money tasting every single apple, you’ll choose from the organic box. It might take a bit more rummaging around in the box, but that costs nothing and is pretty quick and easy. Overall, you’ll pick one that looks and tastes the way you want much, much sooner.

Hopefully you get where we’re going with this!

When it comes to finding love, looking in places where you judge everyone on superficial profiles first — then trying to find a deeper connection later down the line — is like trying to find the perfect apple in the regular apple box.

So what is the equivalent of choosing from the organic box — of looking through the good-tasting apples for one that you like the look of, too?

Look for love in places that maximize your chances of meeting someone whose personality and values you like.

If you’re already mixing with people you’re likely to have a deeper connection with, you’re left with the much quicker, easier and more exciting task of finding the people you fancy amongst those. Not only that, but you’ll make a lot more good friends on the way.

Creating those kind of environments is precisely our mission at Zojul. We create the organic apple box, with great tasting apples; you pick the one you like the look of. Wonky or otherwise.
