Before you start reading article and learn some helpful ways, I want to tell that reading story books, self help books or even academic books brings various benefits to you.

“The whole world opened to me when I learned to read”, well said by Mary Mclead Bethune. It actually opens complete world beyond your imagination.

A question comes in my mind that why we read?

  1. To know what is happening around us.
  2. To understand the subject matter.
  3. To boost or enhance our imagination.
  4. To increase the power of judgement.
  5. To imbibe ethical/cultural values.
  6. To cultivate social sense.
  7. To understand human life/mind.
  8. To experience/experiment new things.

Those who understood benefits got successful in their lives, some of those examples are mentioned below.

  1. Charley Gallay
  2. Warren Buffet
  3. Jeff Bezos
  4. LeBron James
  5. Sheryl Snadberg
  6. Reese Witherspoon
  7. Bill Gates
  8. Sharukh Khan
  9. Emma Watson
  10. Michelle Obama

If they all can then you can also be an avid reader and develop many skills.

What do good readers do????

  1. Pick a “just right” book, so interest stays in book.
  2. Understand what they are reading.
  3. Ask questions or discuss as they read.
  4. Hold onto important words/ vocabulary.
  5. Think about the plot of the story as it develop critical thinking.
  6. Re-read books for fluency and reading habit.
  7. Use expression!
  8. Recommend books to others.
  9. Reflect on reading.

Here are some ways to develop lifetime reading habit. Please try to start implementing at least one. Each day reading will develop your personality.

  1. Try to understand the importance of reading=> Once you know that books can change your life in a positive aspect, you will crave to read something more knowledgeable.
  2. Look for good books=> Hundreds and thousands of books have been written till now. You cannot read all of them in a single life span. Look for a book to read which interests you.
  3. Plan a reading habit=> Reserve one hour of your day for reading. Do not do anything else in that hour. Try to read in lunch and dinner breaks to avoid yourself from doing something unproductive.
  4. Read in the morning=> Your mind is fresh and clear in the morning and absorbs whatever you give it. Schedule your mind to read at least 20 pages before you brush your teeth or before having breakfast.
  5. Try to enjoy reading=> Don’t take reading as a task or a chore. The purpose is to develop healthy habits in yourself. Think of reading as a relaxing activity for the day. Discuss a good read with your friends to see their interest develop in the book.
  6. Be a part of a Book Club=> People who finish a book can exchange them with other good reads to keep reading interesting books. A book club participation can develop good reading habits in you.
  7. Read to a child=> This will cultivate a reading habit in you and your child will also develop an interest in reading books. Your child will develop good reading habits which will help them to seek more knowledge and to get better in studies.

Reading develop following skills-

  1. Critical Thinking
  2. Communication skills
  3. Develops concentration
  4. Build habits(Motivational speaker or writer)

Rest there are many more skills which you will be able to explore once you start reading. I suggest everyone to have this wonderful experience and know about this world little more.
