Prosperity; God's Test for Humility
I have always avoided two topics in my life and I intend to keep it that way, and so when I got the inspiration to write something in this direction, I had to be sure it was indeed right.
There are two topics that generates tension and unnecessary arguments not because these topics are volatile themselves but you see, they are made of many doctrines which makes them prone to heresy and because as humans we are emotional, we tend to get overly attracted even when it’s obvious.
I hate to say that our world has changed and so also our religious doctrines. We have progressed a lot in our religion and it is marvelous the rate at which peoples lives have changed.
Our standard of living has also improved so also is our waste level as we now have more than we need yet it will surprise you that we have this massive wealth in the hands of a few and only the generous among these have been able to extend hands of help to the less privileged.
Should a Christian be poor?
This is perhaps the most preached topic in our sanctuaries these days and many arguments to and fro have been made with many people quoting scriptural passages for and against this argument.
I am not going to dwell on this neither am I going to in any way make my stand point known though I belief that as many that serve God are entitled to God’s riches and also should be able to meet up with earthly demands.
My concern is not the wealth we now possess but for the way and manner we go about flaunting it in such a carnality. We are blessed to be a blessing and not to show off, ironically this is what we have prevalent this days. We have lost all decorum in administering the wealth that God has blessed us with.
Paul in talking about consumption of meat dedicated to idols made us know that it is nothing considering that these gods are dead but admonished us to consider a young person/Christian who might be offended because of their lack of knowledge.
If I have to wear a wrist watch of $20,000.00 to a gathering where the highest wrist watch is #1000, then I would be inconsiderate because in so doing, I would make be making mockery of the people whose hard work and sweat which is yet to yield increase.
It is not a sin to wear what you can afford but be modest in your outlook so that we do not make others loose faith or make them despondent believing God is partial in his dealings. Remember the injunction that forbids us from making others loose faith by our actions.
I am for Heavenly wealth but for the sake of others, let us comport ourselves in such a way that makes us brethren and not just another social gathering.
