Here is why I think passionate people make bad entrepreneurs.
Ever wondered why enterprises run by driven people who literally “eat, love and pray” their businesses fail? Or why several highly committed entrepreneurs never really peak? Or why they get booted from businesses they toiled for?
I have come to find that most notably, these firebrands love the product more than the business. As simple as that.
They either fail to realize that the product does NOT equal the business or just totally ignore it.
For the record, the product and the business are worlds apart. Probably the most relatable analogy is that of love and a happy relationship.
That you love somebody is not equivalent to having a happy relationship with that person. That the product is good doesn’t automatically translate into a good business.
It is definitely a good place to start. But like. most things, it doesn’t totally hold.
Pay attention to other key components of the framework like the numbers, systems, models etc.
Eventually they will learn that as noble (and essential) as loving the product is, it is NEVER enough. It is the business that will sustain both their love (commitment, energy and drive) and the product that they care about.
Passion works wonders. But in business, even wonders aren’t immune.
