Misplaced Priorities

I came home from work last night to shouts in the neighbourhood. On enquiry, I heard a landlord was dragging one of his tenant for not paying him his house rent for the past 8 months and the tenant had the audacity to buy a new home theatre. The landlord who was visibly angry and was threatening both body harm and metaphysical harm (illegal by the way) to the tenant if he (tenant) doesn’t pay him his money yester night was eventually persuaded by the tenant himself and other passers-by. The tenant promised to pay him as soon as he had the money with him. With that sorted, everyone left them and went their respective way.

Fast forward to this morning, I was on my way out and I saw the said tenant sitting with his friends at a particular joint this morning discussing their early morning gist as per “Hustlers”. On getting closer to them, I overhead their conversations which stemmed on how they will get money to attend some if not all the musical concerts happening in Lagos this December. I lingered a little bit to ascertain if I was hearing the tenant correctly and he happened to be the driving force on how they will get money to buy tickets to the shows. One of the friends who witnessed yesterday’s drama between him and his landlord asked him when he intends paying his landlord and the guy said he will pay him when the money is available and another told him why not use the said money he intends to use to attend those shows to pay his rents and he (tenant) said again he will pay when the money is ready.

I wish I had never joined him to beg his landlord as it was clear the guy has his priorities misplaced. What’s the use of attending a show, spend over 20 or 30k for drinks and others just so you can pose for the gram only for you to come back home with a chick or chicks and your landlord or landlady is waiting to drag you for owing 40k. I mean, you just spent over 50k in a single event and you can’t pay a 40k debt. Common! Set your priorities right.

There is no harm if you don’t attend that concert, you wont die and there are many many other concert that will come up and will still come up. Why put so much effort just to oppress and or impress people you don’t know and might not meet in real life.

2020 is in a few weeks, lets use the rest of 2019 to get our priorities right. No need to be rich on social media while you are poor and debt laden in real life.

Do have a wonderful weekend ahead!!! Gracias
