Got to disagree with a couple points; ebooks are not quite like music and the idea of a streaming service, while intriguing and worth exploring, does not appeal to a great deal of readers.

Considering owning an ebook as something outdated is ignoring the psychology of readers, particularly “hardcore” ones. Ironically enough, the price of subscription only makes sense if you read quite a lot, but people who read a lot actually loathe the idea of not owning their books.

All venues are worth exploring but ebook streaming/subscription services answer more the needs of publishers than the wishes or needs of readers…
