100 MOVIES IN A YEAR: #17 Pandorum

Pandorum has a similar initial premise to Passengers, and then proceeds to be 50 times more interesting (while also being an absolute god damned mess.) This is one of those deeply flawed minor cult classics, which is nice, because it’s thus very easy to come into without any preexisting knowledge. It is a vastly superior film to something like Event Horizon, which is still a fairly good entry in the “Horror in space” sub-genre. Like a lot of horror movies, the creature design/use is one of the movie’s weaker aspects, but that doesn’t come close to keeping this form being one you should watch. Also, it reaffirms that Ben Foster has had an low key incredibly interesting film career, and also that Dennis Quaid was at one point a pretty big movie star that doesn’t really have their one defining role/big movie. Weird.
